Sewing Project: Black Watch Tartan Dress

One of my favorite dress patterns to sew from circa 1960’s from the Simplicity. I adore sewing from vintage patterns. The patterns I tend to gravitate to are hostess dresses/caftans. I will always love the flow of a hostess dress. In the 1920’s - 1960’s women wore hostess dresses. Specifically a hostess dress was a garment a women could lounge around her house in, entertain in, and wear out. I love the concept of being glamorous and comfortable all in the same effortless outfit. Which is exactly why I started creating my dresses. I could not find anything, so I just decided to take matters in my own hands.

In July I taught myself how to sew and once I got the hang of it, I started sourcing vintage patterns. I searched the internet high and low to find the patterns I fell in love with, and in my size. For those who are not familiar with sewing, when you buy a sewing pattern today, the sizes range to cover four to six different sizes (which is handy). Vintage patterns are only one size per package. In my opinion it is a lot less confusing, but also more difficult to get your hands on your size. Especially because the vintage patterns are no longer printed or produced.

I have grown quite the selection in my short time of sewing. I have about 45 -50 vintage pattens. All of which are carefully curated with me and my lifestyle in mind. I am happy to share more of the patterns I have if there is interest.

My favorite fabric to sew with at the moment is fleece. I know it sounds crazy, but it is so soft and comfortable. The weather is perfect for a flowing fleece hostess dress if you ask me! I paired this dress with one of my custom clutches.
